KUALA LUMPUR: On Wednesday night, a total of 12 local men and 11 foreigners were arrested for participating in an online job scam. The arrests took place during a raid on two residential units in Persiaran KLCC conducted by the Dang Wangi District Police Commercial Crime Investigation Division in collaboration with the Commercial Crime Investigation Department, Kuala Lumpur Police Headquarters. The suspects, whose ages range from 18 to 52, were apprehended at approximately 12:15 am after receiving information regarding the illegal activity.
Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Noor Dellhan Yahaya disclosed that among the detainees were a man and woman from China, five Indonesian men, one Indonesian woman, and three Bangladeshi men. The investigation revealed that this syndicate had been operating for nearly a month and targeted victims outside the country via social media applications.
Moreover, authorities seized 31 mobile phones, 14 CPUs, 14 monitors, 10 computer keyboards, 10 computer mouses, one laptop, one router, one modem, and an access card. ACP Noor Dellhan commented that the syndicate used fake profiles to deceive victims by offering them lucrative commissions.
Furthermore, upon further examination, it was discovered that two of the detainees had previous criminal records. All suspects have been remanded for four days from Thursday to facilitate further investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 420/511 of the Penal Code. – Bernama
