KUALA LUMPUR: On Wednesday (Dec 6), the police apprehended an oil tanker suspected of smuggling subsidised diesel in Port Klang, Selangor.
Datuk Seri Hazani Ghazali, the director of the Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department, stated that 138,982 liters of subsidised diesel, pumps, and hose were confiscated from the vessel, which is estimated to be worth RM14.3 million.
As part of the operation conducted by the Wildlife Crime Bureau/Special Intelligence Force, six foreigners with passports were also detained.
Hazani mentioned that from January to December, 68 operations and raids were carried out involving controlled items like subsidised diesel. The seized items were worth RM73.8 million, and 240 individuals were arrested.
He added that the police are committed to collaborating with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living to combat the misappropriation of subsidised goods.
“The public must also act as the eyes and ears of the police and other enforcement bodies to combat criminal activities and prevent subsidised goods from falling into the wrong hands,” he said. – Bernama
