KUALA LUMPUR: The police are looking into a public gathering at Istana Negara that took place on Tuesday. According to Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Amihizam Abdul Shukor, a group of four people in the crowd handed a memorandum to the Istana Negara head of corporate communications. The police estimated that around 700 people, including members of political parties and NGOs, attended the gathering. ACP Amihizam also mentioned that no notice was given to the police about the gathering and that no arrests or seizures were made.
He cautioned against speculating about the matter and stated that the case is being investigated under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012. The gathering, named “Selamatkan Tanah Air Kita Suara Rakyat Ke Istana Negara,” was organized by various Islamic NGOs who claimed that the current economic challenges, such as the rising costs of living, have caused difficulties for the masses, particularly Malay Muslims.
