KUALA LUMPUR: A group of criminals has been targeting social media influencers who display their wealth on various social media platforms.
It is believed that the same group was responsible for the RM3.5 million robbery at the home of a businesswoman in Padang Balang, Sentul, on Sunday (March 3).
The group, consisting of three women and a man, would monitor the activities of influencers to select their targets.
One of the individuals would keep an eye on the victim’s movements, while the male suspect would enter the victim’s residence when they were away.
Their criminal activities came to light when a team from the Gombak district police headquarters apprehended the suspects in Johor Baru on Wednesday (March 6).
“We received a report of a burglary at an influencer’s residence in Rawang earlier this month.
“Our investigation led us to locate and apprehend the suspects in Johor Baru as they were selling gold bars.
“We also confiscated several valuable items, including luxury handbags, believed to have been stolen,” Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir mentioned when contacted.
“The suspects have been remanded until Tuesday (March 12) and will be handed over to the Wangsa Maju police once their remand ends,” he added.
Wangsa Maju OCPD Supt Ashari Abu Samah previously stated that the incident took place between 10 pm and midnight on Sunday when the businesswoman and her family were not at home.
