In a special operation led by Bukit Aman, several “mat rempit” were arrested at the Senawang toll plaza and along the Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Expressway from Saturday to Sunday. Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) director Comm Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri announced on Sunday that seven motorists were apprehended for reckless driving and two for illegal modifications to their number plates. These modifications were aimed at evading detection by the authorities.
The seven individuals caught were between 16 and 24 years old and were taken to the Seremban police district headquarters’ traffic station for further action under Section 42 (1) and Section 108 (F) of the Road Transport Act 1987, said Comm Mohd Azman. Investigations revealed that the arrested motorists were from the Klang Valley and were using the highway as a route to a restaurant in the Bandar Senawang area. Six officers and 68 rank-and-file policemen were involved in the operation, resulting in 101 summonses being issued along with the nine arrests.
Out of the 101 summonses, 20 were for vehicles without number plates. Comm Mohd Azman emphasized that the police will not tolerate road menaces and will continue to conduct regular traffic operations to ensure safety on the roads.
