KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the former prime minister, has had his statement recorded as part of an investigation into disparaging remarks made against the Royal Institution. These comments were published by a news portal on June 6. The Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director, Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, has said that statements from two other individuals, Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan, the former chairman of Pejuang Federal Territory, and Datuk Marzuki Yahya, the former Pejuang deputy president, have also been taken to assist with the investigation. The case is still under investigation, and the public is advised not to speculate or share incorrect information that could disrupt the investigation process. Mohd Shuhaily explained that the case is being handled by the Classified Crime Investigation Unit (USJT), Division D5, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department, under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, in a statement released on August 29.

In another development, Mohd Shuhaily, in a separate statement, confirmed that an investigation has been carried out against Iman Mustaqim, the owner of a Facebook account. Iman Mustaqim had posted insulting messages against the Sultan of Selangor the day before. The Facebook message was deemed to have the potential to insult or incite disloyalty towards Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, the Sultan of Selangor. The case is being investigated by the USJT, Division D5, Bukit Aman, under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. Mohd Shuhaily emphasized that the case is still being investigated, and the public is urged not to speculate or share inaccurate information.
