Police in Tangkak swiftly intervened to rescue a mentally unstable youth who was causing trouble at Masjid Jamek Bandar Tangkak.
According to Tangkak deputy OCPD Deputy Supt Idris Abdul Rahman, the police received a tip-off about an 18-year-old local youth behaving aggressively inside the mosque around 10.30pm on Sunday night.
Recognizing that the suspect may be suffering from mental health issues, the police immediately dispatched a patrol car to the mosque to prevent the situation from escalating.
Upon arrival at the scene, the police officers found the young man acting uncontrollably in the praying area, prompting them to intervene along with members of the mosque congregation.
After persuading the man to leave the premises, the police took him to the Tangkak police station for further questioning.
Initial investigations revealed that the youth had been experiencing depression and talking to himself for three days leading up to the incident.
The police managed to contact the man’s family, who lived nearby, and arranged for his transfer to Tangkak Hospital for treatment.
DSP Idris expressed gratitude on behalf of the victim’s family for the safe return of the young man and emphasized the importance of the public cooperating with the police by providing information without speculating on such incidents.
