KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 200 people have been detained in the ongoing investigation involving Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB), says Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

The Inspector-General of Police said the individuals were detained in an operation codenamed Ops Global that began on Sept 11.

“Among the arrested were 31 people including 17 members of the GISB top management, who were detained on Sept 18 and 19 in Kuala Lumpur, Pahang, Negri Sembilan, Kelantan and Kedah,” he said in a statement on Saturday (Sept 21).

He said that of the 200, 139 have been remanded while 23 others have been released on police bail for various reasons.

“We have opened 37 investigation papers (IP) under various sections including Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences against Children Act 2017 and Section 14 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2017,” said Razarudin.

“A total of eight IPs involving seven suspects have been prosecuted with 29 charges,” he added.

The IGP said all victims aged 18 and above have been handed over to their next of kin while those below 18 have been handed over to the Welfare Department under Section 25(2) of the Child Act 2001.

“We are still committed to conducting a thorough investigation in this operation. We urge the public not to speculate on the case while the investigation is ongoing,” he said.

Razarudin also asked those with information on the case to come forward and lodge police reports to assist with the investigation.
