According to Northeast District Police chief ACP Razlam Ab Hamid, the police recently discovered a drug trafficking syndicate’s plan to hide ganja in a Chinese cemetery in Mount Erskine, Pulau Tikus. The police carried out a series of raids and were able to apprehend two men. They also seized drugs worth RM496,088 over the course of Wednesday and Thursday.

The first arrest occurred around 4pm when police apprehended a 50-year-old man by the roadside at the Hong Seng Estate. This resulted in the confiscation of 7.82g of ganja. Upon further investigation, the suspect led law enforcement to an old Chinese grave. There, they discovered 100 packets of compressed ganja weighing 102.9kg and valued at RM331,272 hidden in a 60cm-deep hole in one of the graves.

The second suspect, a 35-year-old man, was then taken into custody approximately 300m from where the first suspect was arrested. This action led to the seizure of ganja and syabu worth close to RM10,000. Subsequently, the second suspect directed the police to a hut in the Hong Seng Estate settlement, where the authorities uncovered 45 packets of compressed ganja weighing nearly 50kg and valued at RM154,869, stashed in two gunny sacks.

It was discovered during preliminary investigations that the two men, who are suspected to be part of the same syndicate network, had been active since December of the previous year. It was also revealed that they were acquiring the ganja from a neighboring country for distribution within the local market.

As a result, both unemployed men tested positive for drugs and have been remanded for seven days to assist in investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. ACP Razlam Ab Hamid relayed this information during a media conference in George Town on Saturday. – Bernama
