KUCHING: Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri announced the formation of a special team to conduct a thorough investigation into the death of a 22-year-old female student. The student was found near an entertainment centre in the city on October 16. The purpose of this task force is to review and expedite the investigation before referring the case to the deputy public prosecutor for further instructions. Throughout this investigation, Mohd Azman advises the public to refrain from speculating, and he assures the public that the investigation will be conducted promptly. The decision to set up this team was prompted by a statement made by Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen during a session at the Dewan Rakyat on October 25. Chong requested the dispatch of a police investigative team to Kuching in order to uncover the truth behind the woman’s sudden death, which was initially classified as non-criminal.
Chong also revealed that the victim’s family was informed of a positive urine test for three types of drugs. The incident came to light when the victim, who was a student at a private learning centre in the state capital, was found unconscious on the roadside near an entertainment centre and was later confirmed dead, as stated by Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah on October 18. – Bernama
