A DAP legislator, Syahredzan Johan (PH-Bangi), has expressed his opinion that the police should allow the Save Malaysia Movement rally to proceed as scheduled on Saturday, September 16. While Johan does not personally support the rally organized by Perikatan Nasional, he believes that the police should permit it to take place. He made this statement in the Dewan Rakyat while debating the 12th Malaysia Plan mid-term review (12MP MTR) on September 14. Johan emphasized the importance of upholding the right to peaceful assembly, highlighting that even the struggle of his own party, Pakatan Harapan, began in the streets. In his view, as long as the rally remains peaceful, it should be allowed.
Meanwhile, Perikatan Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari has announced that the youth wing will hold a Save Malaysia Movement rally on September 16 to protest the outcome of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s graft cases. The High Court had recently granted Ahmad Zahid a discharge without acquittal on 47 graft charges related to Yayasan Akalbudi funds.
