Investigations into allegations of inappropriate behavior by celebrity preacher Ebit Lew, made by an Indonesian social media influencer, are ongoing, according to Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, the Bukit Aman CID director. He stated that more than a dozen witnesses have been called up to date and that one of the lodged reports has been classified as rape. “We have called up 13 witnesses where the case was first reported by the victim. Five days later, Ebit Lew made a report to deny the allegations after returning from overseas,” he said.
Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain added that the police are investigating both cases concurrently, with priority given to the rape allegations followed by defamation and misuse of networking facilities. The allegations against Ebit Lew surfaced recently when an Indonesian social media influencer claimed that he had behaved inappropriately towards her. It should be noted that Lew had previously provided financial assistance to the influencer in June.
Last week, rapper-activist Caprice stated in an Instagram post that he had conducted an interview with the influencer and would upload the video on YouTube. In response, Ebit Lew lodged a report at 2.17am on Monday (Sept 18) alleging that he had been slandered in a video circulating on social media.
Subang Jaya deputy OCPD Supt Fairus Jaafar urged the public not to speculate on the video that has been circulating on social media. He mentioned that the video garnered over 225,000 views, with 2,600 likes and 2,800 comments.
The ongoing investigations involve multiple witnesses being called up by the police. The case was first reported by the victim, and five days later, Ebit Lew himself made a report to deny the allegations after returning from overseas. The police are investigating both the rape allegations and allegations of defamation and misuse of networking facilities, with priority given to the rape accusations.
