Police in Selangor are urging potential flood victims to evacuate when instructed for their own safety.
The Selangor police chief, Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, warned that there are provisions in the law that allow them to take sterner action against those who refuse to obey instructions or obstruct public servants from carrying out their duties.
While acknowledging that flood victims are facing their own challenges, he emphasized the importance of following directives to facilitate rescue and transportation efforts.
During a press conference on Thursday at the contingent headquarters, Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan urged people in flood-prone areas to prepare by keeping their valuables and important documents in waterproof containers for easy transport during emergencies.
He also highlighted that floods have affected several areas in Selangor, leading to the opening of temporary evacuation shelters, including in Sepang.
Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan revealed that authorities will use a diplomatic approach to encourage evacuation but may resort to sterner measures if the situation worsens.
He stressed that not complying with evacuation orders could hinder rescue efforts and put lives at risk.
Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan’s comments serve as a reminder of the importance of heeding official warnings during natural disasters to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and are prepared to take necessary actions to assist those affected by the floods.
