IPOH: The police will look into a request by the Orang Asli community at Pos Kuala Mu to build a police hut or outpost following the murder of a 10-year-old Orang Asli girl there last month.
Perak police chief Comm Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said they would review the request with the Orang Asli Development Department and the local community there.
“We must consider the population and the needs of the area and look at the situation from all angles,” he said at a press conference after the monthly gathering at the state police contingent headquarters here on Monday (Sept 9).
Comm Azizi was asked to comment on the request by the Orang Asli there, who noted that the nearest police station was located about 60km away, making it difficult for locals or tourists to lodge reports.
He said a police outpost was being set up at the Orang Asli One-Stop Centre in Bawong, about 38km away from their settlement.
“The construction has been completed but it is not in operation yet.
“There are procedures required to operate a police outpost,” he said.
Last month, the Orang Asli settlement was shocked by the murder of Nuraina Humaira Rosli, whose body was found near a swampy area, having been reported missing a few days earlier.
The case was initially classified as sudden death before a post-mortem report found signs of injuries on her neck.
The police also did not rule out the possibility that the victim was raped before she was murdered.
A 17-year-old boy has been charged at a Magistrate’s Court in Sungai Siput with Nuraina Humaira’s murder.
Separately, Comm Azizi said there had been many rape cases committed by individuals who are either family members or acquaintances of the victims in the state.
He advised the public to always be vigilant, as trusted relationships could sometimes lead to betrayal and danger.
