JOHOR BARU: The motive behind six-year-old Albertine Leo Jia Hui’s abduction is expected to be established soon, says Johor police chief Comm M. Kumar.
He added that police found new leads in their investigation of the primary suspect, who is currently under remand for possessing child sexual abuse material and pornography.
“The suspect is under remand until Saturday (Aug 10). The case is still being investigated (and) we have found new leads to help us in this matter.
“This will help us focus on our investigation…. We are hopeful that in a couple of days, we can establish the motive behind the victim’s abduction,” he said on Tuesday (Aug 6), adding that investigators would also be seeking to establish if the suspect is a paedophile.

Asked if the victim would be sent for an examination following the latest discoveries about the suspect, Comm Kumar told a press conference at state police headquarters here that she had already undergone a thorough medical check-up.
“The specialist who carried out the examination stated that the victim was medically fine. I do not see any logic in sending her for another check-up,” he added.
On Sunday (Aug 4), the suspect was rearrested following the discovery of various sex toys, adult pornographic material and child sexual abuse material at his residence in Kulai.
He is under remand to allow further investigation under Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 and Section 292 of the Penal Code.
Previously, the suspect was remanded for 13 days from July 23 until Monday (Aug 5) to assist in investigations under Section 365 of the Penal Code and Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 before being released on police bail.
Albertine was reported missing by her father on July 20 at a shopping mall in Iskandar Puteri before she was found safe at a budget hotel in Batang Kali, Selangor on July 23.
