The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry plans to request additional allocations from the Finance Ministry in the coming year to expand the Rahmah Sales programme. Acting Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali announced that the proposal will be presented during a management session involving both ministries for the Budget 2024 initiative. This decision was made due to the overwhelming response received by the programme. The ministry aims to continue the programme in the next year, as it is a legacy of the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.
Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali expressed hope that the allocation for the Rahmah Sales programme could be increased to RM150 million or RM200 million, compared to the RM100 million allocated for Budget 2023. He further stated that if possible, the programme could be implemented in a different form, including through mobile platforms. These statements were made during a press conference held after the Rahmah Sales walkabout at JDT Corner Big Screen Southern Tigers, Dataran Cenderawasih Sungai Abong, near here on Friday, August 18.
The ministry’s goal is to establish Rahmah Sales as a permanent core programme for both the ministry and the government. The programme aims to provide immediate short-term solutions and mitigation strategies to address the cost of living issue. Armizan stressed the importance of this initiative.
Recently, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim approved an additional allocation of RM50 million to extend the ongoing Rahmah Sales initiative. The programme has received positive support from the public since its launch.
