KLANG: The High Court in Klang has rejected an appeal by Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) against a ruling made by a magistrate’s court to compensate a factory worker RM40,000.
Last April, Muhammad Eazrie Hafizie Md Aris was awarded the compensation after filing a counterclaim against TNB, which had accused him of meter-tampering and illegal electricity usage amounting to RM26,811.75 in December 2021
However, it was later discovered that Muhammad Eazrie Hafizie had no account with TNB and was not associated with the premises where the alleged tampering occurred.
In the recent decision on Friday (March 8), via email from Justice Norliza Othman, TNB’s appeal was dismissed and they were ordered to pay RM5,000 in costs.
The original ruling from the magistrate’s court awarding RM40,000 to Muhammad Eazrie Hafizie was upheld.
In his counterclaim, Muhammad Eazrie Hafizie sought general, aggravated, and exemplary damages from TNB.
According to Muhammad Eazrie Hafizie’s lawyer Esmael Shah Shahrudin, his client suffered from major depressive disorder and anxious distress as a result of being sued by TNB.
