In Kuala Lumpur, the request by former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to have his passport permanently returned has been rejected by the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court as he faces money laundering charges.
The Perikatan Nasional chairman, however, has been informed by Sessions Court Judge Azura Alwi that he can still apply for the temporary return of his passport for travel purposes, as reported by the Malay language daily Sinar Harian.
Throughout the oral arguments presented by Muhyiddin’s lawyer K. Kumaraendran and Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib, Judge Azura agreed to allow the temporary release of the Pagoh MP’s passport from Wednesday (Nov 29) until Jan 15 next year.
On October 16, Muhyiddin filed a notice of application for the court to vary the bond imposed on him for an unconditional release of his international passport.
In his affidavit in support, the Pagoh MP stated that he required the passport for a family holiday in London and a medical check-up in Singapore at the end of this year.
