Johor Baru has seen a sharp increase in Covid-19 cases, with a 260% week-on-week rise, according to state exco Ling Tian Soon. The Johor health and unity committee chairman reported that there were 2,423 positive cases in Week 51, a significant jump from the 673 cases recorded the week before.
Ling stated that 123 Covid-19 hospitalisations are currently occurring in Johor, with three patients receiving treatment in the intensive care unit. He added that there was also one Covid-19 death recorded in the same week. These statistics were part of his weekly update on Monday (Dec 25).
Batu Pahat had the highest number of reported Covid-19 cases, followed by Kulai, Johor Baru, Muar, Tangkak, and Kluang, Ling noted. The average number of Covid-19 cases in Week 51 was 8.44 for every 100,000 residents.
According to Ling, there was almost a twentyfold increase in reported Covid-19 cases in the state from Week 48 to Week 50. Week 48 had 34 positive cases, and the numbers shot up to 673 cases in Week 50 (starting Dec 16).
