In the Epidemiology Week 51 of 2023, the number of Covid-19 cases in Malaysia rose to 22,413, an increase from 17,307 cases in Epidemiology Week 50 of 2023, according to Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.
Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad stated that the increase in cases between these two weeks was approximately 29.5%.
During the same period, the number of Covid-19 deaths decreased from 26 to 20, marking a 23.1% drop, the Health Minister announced in a statement on December 23.
He also mentioned that the number of Covid-19 patients admitted to health facilities in Epidemiology Week 50 of 2023 increased by 1.5% compared to Week 49 of 2023, and the occupancy of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds rose to 3.6%.
On December 22, only 50 people received the first booster dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, while 120 people received the second booster dose, the Health Minister stated.
As of that same day, a total of 16,347,130 Malaysians, equivalent to 50.1% of the population, had received the first booster dose, and 828,686 people, equivalent to 2.5%, had received the second booster dose.
Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad assured that the Ministry of Health (MOH) will continue to monitor the Covid-19 situation and take immediate action if necessary.
He also urged the public to practice good personal hygiene and self-control to prevent the spread of infectious diseases, including Covid-19.
He emphasized the importance of civic responsibility in protecting oneself, family, and the entire community, particularly high-risk groups. – Bernama
