The Kedah Immigration Department has announced that wearing face masks is now mandatory for everyone who enters its premises. This notice applies to both officers and customers alike. The notice, posted on the department’s Facebook page, reads, “Please wear a face mask while attending to business as a precaution against rising Covid-19 cases.”

In addition, effective Dec 14, all officers at the department are required to wear a face mask while at work, according to the notice that bears the department’s logo. The UTC Kedah office has also been temporarily closed for sanitation work, as mentioned in another post by the department.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad previously advised those who are symptomatic and in crowded places to wear a mask. He emphasized that the government currently does not plan to re-impose restrictions like the movement control order, despite the recent spike in Covid-19 cases in Malaysia. The situation is still under control, and healthcare facilities are not burdened, thanks to the ministry strengthening the Covid-19 Management Plan with five main strategies, he said.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke also weighed in on the issue, stating that while wearing face masks on public transport is not compulsory for now, it is encouraged following the recent spike in cases. A total of 20,696 Covid-19 cases were reported during the 50th Epidemiological Week (ME) from Dec 10 to 16, an increase of 62.2% compared to 12,757 cases in ME49.

Meanwhile, King advises public to take preventive measures seriously (read more), as well as see that no plans to re-impose MCO are in place until now. The Covid-19 Management Plan will be implemented to combat the rise in Covid-19 cases in Malaysia.

Moreover, Covid-19: Face masks encouraged on public transport, not compulsory, says Loke. As these are some of the key updates in Malaysia with regards to Covid-19, it is important for individuals to take preventive measures seriously. This includes wearing a face mask while in crowded spaces and complying with government advisories.
