KUCHING: Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced that Sarawak will be purchasing RM2mil worth of the antiviral drug Paxlovid in response to the rising number of Covid-19 cases in the state. This decision is aimed at ensuring that Sarawak is adequately prepared for any potential surge in Covid-19 cases.
Emphasizing the importance of saving lives, Abang Johari stated, “We want to have a stock of Paxlovid in case there is a surge. The priority is to save lives. If we don’t get a grant from the Federal Government, the state government will pay first.”
Abang Johari also mentioned that the drug will be distributed to health facilities throughout the state, highlighting the state’s proactive approach in addressing the current health crisis.
When asked about Covid-19 guidelines for the upcoming new year countdown event, Abang Johari stated that the state will adhere to the directives issued by the Health Ministry in managing the current situation. He stressed the importance of being prepared, noting that Sarawak was the first to prepare for the Covid-19 vaccine and is now taking steps to acquire Paxlovid.
During the book launch event for “The Life of Polycarp Sim,” Abang Johari paid tribute to Sim, describing him as a mentor and role model. He expressed his admiration for Sim’s impact on his personal development, stating, “It’s an honour for me to launch this book about a legend. He motivated me to read and get more knowledge.”
