PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry will suggest to the Election Commission (EC) that they should implement the current Covid-19 prevention standard operating procedure (SOP) in the upcoming elections in six states and the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary by-election, according to Dr Zaliha Mustafa, the Health Minister. She mentioned that her ministry will also discuss with the EC and other relevant agencies if any improvements or revisions are needed based on the current situation. The existing SOP, which was used in the 15th General Election in November, permits infected individuals to vote under certain rules. Dr Zaliha stated this during a media briefing after launching the national month event and the “Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2023” event. She added that if necessary, they will discuss implementing different measures and consult with the EC, the National Security Council, and other involved agencies. The elections in six states along with the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary by-election are scheduled for August 12, with the nomination day on July 29.
