(Reuters) – Shabnim Ismail’s extraordinary performance in the last three balls led Welsh Fire to an exciting three-run victory over Birmingham Phoenix in the women’s Hundred game at Edgbaston on Thursday.
The South African seamer claimed a hat-trick by dismissing Tess Flintoff for 55 and Erin Burns and Issy Wong for no runs, preventing Birmingham Phoenix from securing the four runs they needed to win the match in the final three balls.
“I have had one hat-trick before, but I’m extremely pleased to achieve this for the team today,” Ismail said in an interview with Sky Sports. “The team dynamics have changed this year, and we have a strong belief.”
Ismail’s hat-trick makes her the second player to accomplish this feat in the women’s Hundred, following Alana King’s hat-trick for Trent Rockets in 2022.
With this victory, Welsh Fire continues their undefeated streak in The Hundred women’s competition, while Birmingham Phoenix is still searching for their first win.
