KUALA LUMPUR: In a show of protest, a large group of demonstrators is currently making their way to the Dang Wangi district police station to file a complaint against Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The protesters are carrying signs with the words “dakwa Zahid” (accuse Zahid) and chanting “tolak Zahid” (reject Zahid), while receiving assistance from the police and the PAS Unit Amal crowd control team.
Prior to their march, the crowd had gathered outside the Masjid Kg Baru, where they loudly expressed their discontent by shouting “takbir” (Allah is the greatest), “Allahuakbar” (Allah is the greatest), and “Reformasi” (Reformation) to passing cars. Meanwhile, a few organizers delivered speeches on a truck.
One of the organizers, former Umno Putrajaya deputy chief Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz, clarified that this gathering was not intended as a rally, but rather as an opportunity to voice their opinions.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was recently granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal for the 47 corruption charges related to the funds of Yayasan Akalbudi by the High Court. This decision was made after Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar requested for the charges against Zahid to be withdrawn at the start of the hearings on September 4.
In a statement from Zahid’s lawyers, it was revealed that this action was taken following the Attorney General’s Chambers accepting a letter from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on February 20, 2023, where they requested a review of the charges against Zahid.
There is no new information available at this time.
