On Wednesday (Jan 31), a crowd gathered at the Senai International Airport Mosque in Kulai as early as 7am to send off Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar as he heads to Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur to take oath as Malaysia’s 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Following the dawn prayer, some people arrived at 5am to avoid traffic congestion. It is expected that around 2,000 people would come together in front of the mosque, which is among 15 locations where the public can demonstrate their support from Istana Bukit Serene all the way to the Royal Hangar at Senai International Airport.
The Royal entourage departed from Istana Bukit Serene about 7.45am and will take approximately 30 minutes to reach the Royal Hangar.
The official ceremony of taking the oath of office and signing the instrument of office will occur at the 264th (Special) Meeting of the Conference of Rulers at Balairung Seri (throne room), Istana Negara.
During the ceremony, the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, will also be sworn in as Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong for the same period.
In the presence of the other Malay Rulers, members of the Royal family and dignitaries, Sultan Ibrahim will sign the instruments of proclamation of office, which will be read out by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
