The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) is once again urging the federal government to consider providing special financial aid to civil servants and government retirees in light of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

President Datuk Dr Adnan Mat emphasized the importance of this assistance, which has been a tradition for the past decade, and expressed hope that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would continue this practice.

He highlighted the concerns among traders about the purchasing power of civil servants and called on the government to announce the aid soon.

Adnan commended the Perak and Penang governments for already announcing special Aidilfitri aid for their civil servants and urged other state governments to consider providing similar assistance to ease the financial burden on civil servants.

In addition, Cuepacs affirmed its commitment to defending the existing permanent and retirement schemes for civil servants unless a more beneficial scheme is introduced as a replacement.

Adnan stressed the importance of any improvements being made within the framework of ‘no reduction in benefits’, and called on the Public Service Department to explore alternative schemes that maintain or enhance current benefits.

“We want the Public Service Department to study what form of scheme can replace the current one without reducing its benefits,” he stated during a press conference in Ipoh on Friday (March 15).

The proposal for special financial aid for civil servants and government retirees during Hari Raya Aidilfitri is aimed at ensuring that they can celebrate the festive season without financial constraints.

Cuepacs acknowledged the challenges faced by civil servants and highlighted the importance of providing them with the necessary support to maintain their standard of living and welfare.

The organization’s appeal for financial aid aligns with its broader advocacy efforts to safeguard the rights and well-being of civil servants across Malaysia.
