    Culverts help lower floodwater levels along Sg Golok

    The construction of a spillway structure on the embankment of the Sungai Golok Integrated River Basin Development (PLSB) project has led to a decrease in floodwater levels in several nearby villages.

    Mohd Nawi Abdullah, a 53-year-old resident of Kampung Tersang, stated that the installation of 10 culverts has facilitated the outflow of river water from Sungai Lanchang.

    “Previously, heavy rain would cause the waters of Sungai Lanchang and Sungai Golok to rise and overflow into the village within a week. The current situation is not as bad as in previous years due to the improved outflow from Sungai Lanchang,” he told Bernama here yesterday.

    In July, the Federal Government approved the installation of 10 culverts, each measuring 5×5 feet, in Pengkalan Teluk, a location within the PLSB project.

    The purpose is to address flooding issues and stagnant floodwaters.

    Muhammad Yusuf Setafa, 45, from Kampung Bendang Perol said the culverts had helped alleviate the challenges faced by residents dealing with severe flooding since the implementation of the Sungai Golok PLSB project.

    “As of yesterday, some residents from this village moved to a relief centre but the flood situation is not as bad as before,” he added.
