KUALA LUMPUR: CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM) has issued a warning about scammers using WhatsApp for impersonation and scamming money out of victims.
CSM posted on Facebook, informing the public about fraudulent activities where scammers pose as someone known to the victim and send a link, which, once clicked by the victim, leads to them losing access to their WhatsApp account.
The scammers then take over the hacked WhatsApp account and use the victim’s identity to commit fraud, including asking for financial aid or loans from the victim’s contacts and promising to make repayment.
CSM advised people not to click on any link received via WhatsApp and to not make any money transfer until they have confirmed and verified with their contacts.
