    DAP reveals Penang candidates with seven fresh faces in line-up according to state surveys.

    The Democratic Action Party (DAP) has officially unveiled its list of candidates for the Penang state election, which will be held on August 12. The party has included a total of 19 candidates, including seven newcomers.

    Among the fresh faces are Phee Syn Tze, Chee Yeeh Keen, Datuk Seri S. Sundarajoo, Kumaran Krishnan, Connie Tan Hooi Peng, Joshua Woo Sze Zeng, and Wong Yuee Harng.

    Phee Syn Tze, 38, the daughter of the incumbent Sungai Puyu representative Phee Boon Poh, will be making her political debut, taking over from her father. Datuk Seri S. Sundarajoo, the former deputy chief executive officer of Ecoworld Development Group Bhd, will also be making his political debut, replacing Penang Deputy Chief Minister Dr P Ramasamy in Prai.

    Chee, 41, who is a Seberang Prai City Council councillor, and Tan, 33, who is a Penang Island City Council councillor, will be contesting in Bagan Jermal and Seri Delima respectively. Wong, 35, who has been an MBPP councillor since 2016, will be replacing incumbent Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Daniel Gooi Si Zen and will be running in Pengkalan Kota. Gooi, 36, will be moved to Padang Lalang as a replacement for dropped DAP Wanita leader Chong Eng.

    Joshua Woo, 41, a former MBSP councillor and current special officer to caretaker state infrastructure and transport committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari, will replace first-term assemblyman Chris Lee in Pulau Tikus.

    Businessman Kumaran Krishnan, 45, will replace Bagan Dalam’s first-term assemblyman Satees Muniandy. Former Bukit Bendera MP Wong Hon Wai, 50, is making a comeback as the candidate for Paya Terubong, taking over from state tourism committee chairman and three-term assemblyman Yeoh Soon Hin.

    The party has also retained several incumbents, including caretaker Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow in Padang Kota and Lim Guan Eng in Air Putih. Other incumbent candidates include Joseph Ng (Air Itam), Zairil Khir Johari (Tanjung Bunga), Teh Lai Heng (Komtar), Jagdeep Singh Deo (Datuk Keramat), Lim Siew Khim (Sungai Pinang), Ong Ah Teong (Batu Lancang), Heng Lee Lee (Berapit), and Hn’ng Mooi Lye (Jawi).

    The announcement of the candidates was made by DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke.
