Three-term incumbent Seri Kembangan assemblyman, Ean Yong Hian Wah, 44, has announced that he will not be contesting in the upcoming state elections. In a Facebook post, Ean Yong stated that he had informed DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke of his decision, in order to allow younger candidates to come forward.
Ean Yong expressed his hope that the party leaders would provide opportunities for local candidates to contest the Seri Kembangan and Sungai Pelek seats. He assured that despite not participating in the elections, he would continue to support the party and contribute to the effort to retain Selangor.
The Seri Kembangan state seat, located in Selangor’s Puchong parliamentary constituency, has been a stronghold for DAP since 2008. In the last general election in 2018, Ean Yong emerged victorious with a total of 34,659 votes, defeating Barisan-MCA’s Chan Toong Woh, who received 3,514 votes.
Prior to this announcement, The Star had reported on changes being made to the incumbent line-up, with some candidates being transferred or replaced. According to anonymous party sources, Ean Yong and Banting representative Lau Weng San may be reassigned to other constituencies or excluded altogether.
When reached for comment, Ean Yong urged the public to collaborate with the new candidate and promised to make an announcement regarding this matter soon.
