PUTRAJAYA: The National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) has revealed that drug addicts are increasingly turning to the dark web to acquire drugs. Director-general Sutekno Ahmad Belon stated that the dark web and social media platforms have become the preferred channels for addicts to purchase drugs. This trend was highlighted during the recent Cabinet Committee to Eradicate Drugs meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Sutekno explained that the drugs are ordered online and then delivered to the buyer’s or addict’s home using courier or delivery services. This method has gained popularity due to its convenience and relative anonymity. As a result, he advised parents to be vigilant and check the contents of packages addressed to their children, as they could potentially contain drugs.
In response to the issue, authorities are exploring the possibility of imposing regulations on courier service companies and other delivery agents to prevent the transportation of drug packages. This proposal was one of the suggestions discussed during the meeting, with the aim of improving efficiency in tackling drug abuse.
