MELAKA: Kota Laksamana assemblyman Low Chee Leong has announced that a private Telegram dating group that manipulated images of locals, including an elderly woman, has been shut down. He revealed that the chat group ceased to exist after The Star reported about the scam on September 12.

“Upon investigation, we discovered that the chat group was shut down on September 13,” said Low. “This has brought immense relief to the victims who were emotionally traumatized upon discovering their doctored explicit pictures uploaded into the chat group,” he added. The announcement was made at the launch of a youth patriotism event at Accelskill Academy in Jalan Hang Tuah on September 21, with the presence of CEO of Accelskill K. Annadurai and more than 300 participants.
Low further mentioned that hundreds of images of local individuals, including a 65-year-old grandmother from his constituency, were reportedly uploaded to a private Telegram dating group. Concerns were raised when the 19-year-old grandson of the elderly woman discovered fake pictures of his grandmother in a bikini on the platform and promptly contacted Low to take action.
Aside from this case, Low also received complaints about doctored photos of female executives, housewives, and even young men that were taken from social media and used inappropriately on the dating group. “These victims felt embarrassed to see their pictures manipulated to depict them in bathing suits and underwear,” he stated.
The chat group, which claimed to have 700,000 members and presented itself as a dating site, instead displayed explicit images of innocent victims. Low expressed his concern over this deceitful act.
Meanwhile, as the Melaka Rural Development, Agriculture, and Food Security Committee deputy chairman, Low revealed that the state would receive 3,000 bags of local white rice weighing 10kg each on September 25. The supplies will be distributed accordingly by the Melaka Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama).
