MELAKA: Parti Punjabi Malaysia (PPM) secretary-general Datuk Amarjeet Singh has described the conferment of a Datukship by Melaka Yang-di Pertua Negeri Tun Dr Mohd Ali Rustam as a valuable gift to the minorities. Amarjeet, who was awarded the Darjah Mulia Seri Melaka (DMSM) and granted the Datuk title on Thursday (Aug 24), attributed this recognition to the spirit of unity within Barisan Nasional.
Amarjeet emphasized the coalition’s collaborative effort to achieve beneficial agendas for all Malaysians as evidence of this unity. He added that his party and himself would work harder to serve all Malaysians, upholding the traditions and aspirations of Barisan to maintain political stability in the country. In addition, Amarjeet expressed his gratitude to Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Tun Dr Mohd Ali for honoring PPM, acknowledging that it was a significant recognition for their party.
The 56-year-old Amarjeet, a native of Selangor, has been a member of PPM for the past 15 years. He assumed the role of secretary-general in 2012 and has been actively involved in various non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
The conferment ceremony was held in conjunction with the 74th Birthday of Tun Dr Mohd Ali, with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh leading the 1,042 recipients of awards. Ab Rauf received the Darjah Utama Negeri Melaka (DUNM) and the Datuk Seri Utama title. Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain was awarded the Darjah Gemilang Seri Melaka (DGSM) and granted the Datuk Seri title. Others who received honors include Melaka tourism, heritage, art, and culture committee chairman Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman, who was conferred the Darjah Cemerlang Seri Melaka (DCSM) and obtained the Datuk Wira title. Additional recipients of the DMSM include Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Zainol Samah, Umno secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, and Deputy Prime Minister’s aide Datuk Tajul Razi Abdul Aziz. The remaining recipients of the DMSM include science, technology, innovation, and digital communications committee chairman Datuk Fairul Nizam Roslan and the Prime Minister’s political secretary Datuk Azman Abidin.
