Penang Deputy Chief Minister Dr P Ramasamy will not be participating in the upcoming state polls, potentially marking the end of his 74-year-old political career. Instead, Datuk Seri S. Sundarajoo has been selected as the DAP candidate for the Prai seat.
Sundarajoo, who previously held the position of deputy chief executive officer at Ecoworld Development Sdn Bhd, brings with him over 31 years of experience in the property industry.
He is one of seven new candidates announced to join the state DAP line-up, including Connie Tan Hooi Peng, Phee Syn Tze, Joshua Woo Sze Zeng, Kumaran Krishnan, Chee Yeeh Keen, and Wong Yuee Harng.
The Jen Hotel was the venue for the announcement, where the new candidates were observed celebrating with their supporters. They took photos together at the hotel’s foyer.
Phee Syn Tze is expected to replace her father, Phee Boon Poh, in the Sungai Puyu seat, while Kumaran is set to contest the Bagan Dalam seat, which is currently held by Satees Muniandy, a protégé of Ramasamy.
The event, originally scheduled to commence at 5pm, experienced a delay. A total of 19 candidates, including the seven new faces, are set to be unveiled.
If Pakatan Harapan/Barisan Nasional emerges victoriously, it is speculated that Jagdeep Singh Deo will assume the position of deputy chief minister. Jagdeep has been representing the Datok Keramat seat since 2008 and is expected to seek re-election next month.
A large crowd of supporters gathered at the Jen Hotel, eagerly awaiting the announcement of the state DAP candidates.
