The delay in appointing the new Skills Development Fund Corporation (PTPK) board of directors has caused issues affecting students and private Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutes, as mentioned by Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud.
According to him, the delay has resulted in problems with appointing new training supervisors, renewing existing ones, approving new programs, and determining study fees.
To address this concern, the ministry has appointed the chairman and deputy for the board on September 26th, and a meeting is scheduled for October 11th.
Regarding the allowances of RM2,500 for laptops and RM2,000 for transportation, these were previously provided to attract students to enroll in TVET courses.
The surge in demand, particularly in the third quarter, has prompted a review of these allowances due to the government’s focus on enhancing TVET to contribute to the country’s goal of becoming a high-income nation.
The computer allowance will now only be granted to those who require it for online classes or are enrolled in ICT, level 4, or level 5 programs.
The transport allowance will also undergo a reevaluation, with consideration given to the location of students, especially those in rural areas in Sabah and Sarawak.
