KUALA LUMPUR: Preliminary analysis of the improvised explosive device (IED) planted on lawyer Siti Kasim’s car shows the presence of combustible materials, confirms Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.

“The preliminary report from the Bomb Squad confirms that the materials used could have led to a fire. We will have to wait for full details,” he said after an event in Bukit Aman to send off police athletes to the World Police and Fire Games in Winnipeg, Canada.

He added that the actual makeup of the IED would be investigated as part of the analysis.

“There have been no reports of threats made against Siti Kasim and we are still investigating to identify suspects.

“Making bombs is not difficult – during my time in the counter-terrorism unit, I have come across some people – including a 16-year-old – who learned how to assemble IEDs from the Internet,” he said.

On July 21, a bomb was found underneath Siti Kasim’s car when it was being serviced in a workshop in Bangsar.

The police bomb squad was dispatched to safely remove the IED and Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Amihizam Abdul Shukor told reporters at the scene that it would be sent for further analysis.
