    Dewan Negara to debate urgent motion on Palestine today

    The Senate in Kuala Lumpur has approved an urgent motion to discuss and denounce the cruelty and oppression of the Zionist regime against the Palestinian people, scheduled for Wednesday (Dec 6) evening. Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar Wan Junaidi announced that the motion was submitted by Senator Hussin Ismail under Standing Order 17 (1), and will be debated for one hour starting at 4.30 pm. The proposer is allotted 10 minutes to speak, followed by other Senate members before the government presents its response.

    He also shared that for the matter to be considered by the Senate, he, as the Senate president, had to ensure that the matter raised meets three conditions: a specific nature, public interest, and urgency. After reviewing the matter, he concluded that it was indeed important, in the public interest, and required urgent attention. Therefore, he allowed the motion to be debated in the House from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm, as stated in the Dewan Negara sitting on Wednesday, according to Bernama.

    The decision to allow this urgent motion highlights the Senate’s acknowledgment of the severity of the situation and the desire to address it promptly.
