Digitally savvy talent pool can boost economy, raise nation's creative profile, says Gobind

KUALA LUMPUR: The Digital Ministry is ready to assist the Education Ministry in enhancing the Digital Education Policy to create a more digitally savvy generation.

Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said this will also potentially increase the number of local talents in the digital field.

“Agencies under the Digital Ministry are ready to assist the Education Ministry in ensuring these initiatives succeed,” he said when launching the Malaysia Digital Content Festival (MYDCF) and MyDigitalMaker International Convention here on Friday (Sept 13).

He said focusing on innovation and talent development can prepare the younger generation for the digital economy which is projected to contribute 25.5% to Malaysia’s gross domestic product by next year.

“Continuous efforts like the MYDCF and MyDigitalMaker can empower the local economy and create more job opportunities,” he added.

On Malaysia’s video game industry, he said the country is expected to generate about RM3bil in revenue.

He said Malaysia has also attracted investments from various big-name studios, adding that the sector offered great potential to expand the economy and boost creativity.

“Combining the various elements can spur the digital economy and ensure Malaysia is at the frontline of innovation and technology at the global level,” he said.

He also urged Malaysians to utilise existing platforms to showcase their talents in a healthy and competitive way to enhance the national digital landscape.
