The director of a bitumen manufacturing company located at the Tungzen Industrial Park in Kampung Kepayang, Batu Gajah, has been charged with using controlled goods without a permit. Datuk Loke Mei Chan, aged 54, pleaded not guilty after being charged under Regulation 21 of the Control of Supplies Regulations, in conjunction with Section 22(4) of the Control of Supplies Act. The charge was read before Sessions Court judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad in Ipoh on Monday (Aug 14).
According to the charge, Loke is alleged to have violated Rule 18(1) of the Control of Supplies Regulations by using 19,546 litres of diesel without a permit for the company’s operations at their premises on Jan 13 at approximately 10:55 am.
If found guilty of the offence, Loke could be fined up to RM1 million or face a maximum jail term of three years, or both as prescribed by the law.
Additionally, the company, K2 Bitumen Sdn Bhd, has also been charged with the same offence under Rule 21 of the Control of Supplies Regulations.
Loke, upon hearing the charge, pleaded not guilty during the court proceeding.
If found guilty, both Loke and the company could face a fine of up to RM2 million.
Judge Ainul has scheduled the mention of the case for September 22.
During the court proceeding, Loke and the company were represented by lawyer Muhammad Imran Johar. Deputy public prosecutor Syazwani Zawawi acted as the prosecutor in the case.
