KLANG: Medical officers at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah (HTAR) are facing a difficult task as they work to identify the bodies of the 10 victims of the Shah Alam plane crash. DNA testing is currently underway, but it will take some time.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain met with the families at the hospital and provided an update. “A total of 22 DNA samples have been taken from the families. As for the remains, there are some with only heads, body parts, and some in pieces,” he stated during a press conference outside the hospital’s Forensic Department. He also mentioned that there are over 200 pieces of remains, and it is estimated that the DNA testing process will be completed by Monday.

However, Razarudin cautioned that it may take longer than Monday for the remains to be claimed, despite the Chemistry Department’s earlier announcement. Regarding the burial processes, he informed that the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) is prepared to transport the victims’ remains to their respective homes and assist with funeral rites.

“We have 10 vans on standby from JAIS, and the police will escort the families,” Razarudin stated regarding the transportation arrangements for the remains.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, accompanied by deputy Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, caretaker Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, and Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, made a brief visit to the hospital to console the grieving families.

Anwar assured that assistance would be provided to the families, including support in managing the remains and accommodation for the next-of-kin.

The government will also provide aid to the families, particularly those without a stable income. Anwar expressed his condolences and urged the families to be patient. He stated, “No one expected this to happen. Now, we hope the forensic and DNA matching process can be expedited.”

“On behalf of the federal and state governments, we will help alleviate the burden of the families,” he added.
