Umno supreme council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi has claimed that Muda unofficially withdrew from the unity government by contesting alone in the recent six state elections. He also stated that Muda’s threats of retracting support from the unity government are unnecessary. Mohd Puad expressed his views in a Facebook post on Thursday (Sept 7).
Mohd Puad reiterated that Muda should simply retract their support and highlighted that the decision to contest solo in the six state elections was a clear indication that Muda had crossed a red line. In his opinion, Muda’s decision to go against the unity government was a self-imposed withdrawal.
Furthermore, Mohd Puad argued that Muda should not use the discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) granted to Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as leverage to be accepted into Pakatan Harapan. He also made a suggestion to Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and Amira Aisya Abd Aziz, urging them to vacate their Muar and Puteri Wangsa state seats respectively.
Mohd Puad questioned whether the Muar and Puteri Wangsa constituencies could secure a win without the support of Pakatan Harapan. He implied that the threat of retracting support was merely an empty gesture, stating that they lacked the bravery to compete without the coalition’s backing.
Syed Saddiq, the leader of Muda, had previously declared that the party would reconsider its position in the unity government following the DNAA granted to Ahmad Zahid. The High Court had issued a DNAA for all 47 graft charges related to Yayasan Akalbudi funds on Monday (Sept 4).
