PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has suggested that the vacant Domestic Trade and Cost of Living portfolio in the Cabinet will be filled in soon. After the One Million Al-Quran Waqf Solidarity event on Friday (Sept 15), Anwar mentioned that the post will be filled after considering several matters. When asked about the vacancy following the death of Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub on July 23, Anwar said, “InsyaAllah, we will fill the vacancy. If you have any suggestions, please write to me as soon as possible… (for) me to consider.” Salahuddin, aged 61, passed away due to a brain haemorrhage at Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar, Kedah. Currently, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah, Sarawak Affairs and Special Functions) Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali is temporarily assuming the minister’s duties.
Concerning the suggestion that Anwar explains in Parliament the reasons behind Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi being discharged with a non-acquittal (DNAA) in the Yayasan Akalbudi graft case, Anwar responded with “InsyaAllah”. PKR Hassan Abdul Karim proposed on Thursday (Sept 14) for Anwar to provide an explanation to put an end to the discussions around the issue.
Anwar previously emphasized that he never intervened in the court’s decision and that it was the Attorney General who held the full authority to decide on matters related to the prosecution of the case. – Bernama
