PETALING JAYA: Minister in Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar (pic) has urged the public not to fall for advertisements offering cheap umrah packages.
It is important for individuals planning to perform umrah to thoroughly research the background of the agency they choose. The Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (Motac) has prepared a platform where consumers can check the credibility of these agencies.
Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im cautioned against offers that seem too good to be true, such as packages priced at RM4,000, as such a low price cannot cover flight costs, accommodations, expenses in Makkah, visits to Madinah, and other expenses incurred during umrah.
While the responsibility falls under the purview of Motac, Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im emphasized the need to educate the public about the risks of falling victim to fraudulent umrah packages.
His comments were prompted by a viral TikTok video that exposed a company offering deceptive umrah packages to villagers. Those who have been scammed are advised to keep records of their transactions and agreements as evidence, and to report the incidents to the police.
