PETALING JAYA: Cabinet ministers who are planning to go for overseas holidays during the monsoon season – expected to begin next month – have been urged to reconsider their plans.
The Women, Family and Community Development Minister, Datuk Nancy Shukri, has advised ministers to stay in the country during the floods to support the community.
Preparations for the upcoming monsoon season are in full swing, and ministers are discouraged from going on overseas holidays.
In an interview with Berita Harian Online, Nancy Shukri stated, “This is a normal practice in the Cabinet to ensure all matters related to floods can be handled if any disaster happens.”
She added, “Everything is ready, and we just need to fine-tune the preparation in several locations in Sabah, Sarawak, and Perak, which have been hit with flash floods.”
Currently, there are 228 residents from 72 families in temporary evacuation centers in Sabah, 33 victims from seven families in the Limbang, Sarawak evacuation center, and 37 individuals from nine families in Perak.
Regarding the increase in prices of essential goods given to flood victims, the quantity and type of supply will remain unchanged.
Nancy stated, “We will not reduce the quantity of food supply, such as rice and others, and the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) will coordinate the activity.”
