Voters in the Pelangai state by-election have been encouraged to avoid selecting an elected representative who may create a ‘distance’ between the area and the government’s agenda. Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin (pic) emphasized the importance of choosing a state assemblyman who has good relations with both the state and Federal Governments. Having a representative with such ties would facilitate the implementation of programs and policies to enhance the quality of life for the people.
According to Mohamed Khaled, Pelangai is geographically distant from the state administrative center in Kuantan and the federal administrative capital in Putrajaya. Given this situation, he urged the voters to be mindful and not elect an assemblyman who would exacerbate the separation between Pelangai and the government.
Mohamed Khaled, who previously served as the Higher Education Minister, made these remarks to reporters after attending the Pahang Semarak Siswa Madani program at Dataran Simpang Pelangai on Sunday (Oct 1).
The Pelangai state by-election on Oct 7 will witness a three-cornered fight among Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Amizar Abu Adam, Perikatan Nasional’s Kasim Samat, and independent candidate Haslihelmy DM Zulhasni.
Mohamed Khaled expressed confidence that Barisan would retain the Pelangai seat, as the Barisan campaign has received a positive response thus far. – Bernama
