SHAH ALAM: The public is reminded to not speculate, spread any photos or information that might jeopardise the ongoing investigation into the death of a Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) student, says Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.
He said no one should issue a statement that goes beyond the scope of the police’s investigation.
“There is a lot of wild speculation about the discovery of a woman’s body at an oil palm estate in Kampung Sri Kledang Hulu Selangor. It has caused confusion,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (July 17).
Comm Hussein said action could be taken on those who spread misinformation under Section 233 of the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Act 1998.
It was reported that Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the victim’s body was found at a palm oil plantation in Kampung Sri Kledang, Hulu Selangor on July 15.
Nur Farah Kartini Abdullah was reported missing in Tanjung Malim, Perak, on July 11.
She was reported missing after sending a rental car to a customer at Taman Universiti, Tanjung Malim.
A policeman believed to be her boyfriend has since been detained and remanded for seven days.
The case is classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
