The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has advised the public not to share or spread videos of the fatal accident involving a Form Five student in Meru, Ipoh last Friday. According to them, such acts can be punishable under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Moreover, the MCMC has called on those who have uploaded such content to remove and delete them out of respect for the victim’s family. They highlighted that sharing such content will not only hurt the feelings of the victim’s family but also violate basic principles and ethics.

In a statement, the commission emphasized the importance of thinking carefully before spreading such photos or videos, considering the impact it could have on others. They also urged the public not to speculate on the matter as the case is still ongoing.

The MCMC also conveyed its sympathies to the victim’s family over their loss, recognizing the difficult time they are going through. The tragic incident occurred when the Form Five student was hit by a car at Jalan Taman Jati near Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Jati in Meru, Ipoh. The car is believed to have been driven by a senior police officer with the rank of deputy superintendent (DSP).

This senior officer, aged 44, has been charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder at the Ipoh Magistrate’s Court on Monday (Dec 19). The MCMC’s appeal to the public to refrain from sharing the accident videos and to show respect for the victim’s family is an important reminder of the impact such actions can have on those involved.
