PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, the president of Pejuang, has claimed that his father, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, was also under investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
He disclosed that he saw the notices sent to his brothers Mirzan and Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir, which clearly indicated that Dr Mahathir was also part of the investigation.
“I personally saw that the notice, signed by Tan Sri Azam Baki as the MACC chief, was addressed to both Mirzan and Mokhzani, with the initial mention of investigating my father,” Mukhriz stated in a video uploaded by Malaya Daily on YouTube on Sunday (March 31).
Mukhriz expressed his surprise at the fact that his brothers were investigated when it was actually their father who was the focus.
On March 27, Azam Baki mentioned that he would examine the claims made by Mahathir’s two eldest sons regarding their involvement in MACC investigations.
“I will need more information before providing any comments,” the MACC chief commissioner explained.
By January 19, MACC had instructed Mirzan to declare his assets within 30 days, whether they were in Malaysia or overseas.
MACC also confirmed that, starting from August 2022, they had initiated investigations on all entities mentioned in the Pandora Papers and the Panama Papers.
The agency elaborated that the investigation was an extension of details found in the Panama Papers.
Both Mirzan and Mokhzani were granted an additional 30 days to declare their assets.
