Former Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah will lead the engagement and discussion sessions at the upcoming Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Technical Advisory Group (TAG) meeting. The meeting will take place in Manila from September 28 to 29. Dr Noor Hisham stated that the discussions will primarily revolve around universal health coverage, with a special focus on the lessons learned from the global impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a WhatsApp message to Bernama on Wednesday (Sept 27), Dr Noor Hisham expressed that the Health Ministry possesses significant experience and a range of innovative ideas and initiatives that have already been implemented or are currently being undertaken in the Pacific region. He also emphasized the importance of leveraging local and regional collaborations to further enhance the healthcare system in the Western Pacific Region.
Dr Noor Hisham further stated in a Facebook post that the Covid-19 pandemic has taught valuable lessons and stressed the need for collective efforts to strengthen the health system in the Western Pacific Region. He emphasized the significance of taking initial steps towards success in a timely manner.
Dr Noor Hisham’s appointment as a member of the World Health Organisation (WHO) UHC TAG was made on August 2, subsequent to his retirement from public service in April this year. His appointment is valid for a three-year period from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2026.
